Stream Maps USA includes a Keyword Search that allows you to easily find virtually any water. You can filter your search to find any combination of rivers, lakes and streams, and target this search to the entire region, or narrow it to a specific state, or county.
Each search returns a series of color coded pins on the map. These pins match Stream Map USA's color coding, and include a letter code to identify the water type. "L" is for Lake, "R" is for River, and "S" is for Stream.
Stream Map USA takes a unique approach. We've mapped each river, lake and stream in a unique color allowing you to quickly differentiate any water from its tributaries and follow any stream from its headwaters to its mouth.
Traditional Maps have always treated rivers and streams as simple blue lines. This has made it difficult to quickly identify streams and almost impossible to follow a stream's flow.
Once you've found a River, Lake, or Stream, It's easy to get there. Simply zoom in on the map and find a road crossing then touch the map at that point to create a waypoint. Waypoints are displayed on the map as green flags. Now touch the waypoint flag and a menu opens.
Touching "GO" launches your phone or tablet's built-in navigation software ready to guide you with turn-by-turn driving directions right to that spot.
For iPhone & iPad users, 6 map views are available. USGS Topo Maps and OpenStreetMap are designed to store on your phone or tablet. These maps can be used when no phone service is available. In addition, Apple's Roadmaps, Satellite Images, and Hybrid Maps can be used when you have service, and a Plain White view is included to clearly see Stream Map USA's features without extra clutter.
For Android users, USGS Topo Maps, and OpenStreetMap can also be cached and used without cellular service while Google's Roadmaps, Terrain Maps, and Satellite Imagery are available with service. In addition, the Plain White view is included allowing you to focus exclusively on Stream Map USA's water maps.
As you travel, Stream Maps USA displays and follows your current location on the map. This works even if you don't have phone service. Combined with offline maps, you'll always know exactly where you are. Along the way, you can easily add waypoints to save your favorite places for future reference. Waypoints are displayed as green flags on the maps.
You create waypoints by capturing your current location, entering GPS coordinates, or with a simple touch of the map. Each waypoint can then be named and notes can be added at any time. Touching the "Go" button gives you turn-by-turn directions and you can also share your waypoints with friends.
Stream Map USA includes a unique Target function. This allows you to set any waypoint as your target destination. The targeted waypoint is then highlighted on the map with a red target symbol. While browsing the map, you can easily return to that waypoint with a simple touch of the target button. You can also now use the compass to hike directly to that targeted destination.
Once you targeted a waypoint, switch to the compass view. The compass displays a red direction of travel arrow. Simply allign the arrow and the compass points the way and counts down the distance directly to your targeted destination. In addition, the compass tells you your current GPS coordinates, altitude and speed of travel just like a handheld GPS, and it works without phone service.
Stream Maps USA maps the location of all USGS stream gauges giving you immediate access to up-to-the-minute stream height and flow conditions from within the app.
Each gauge links directly to the NWIS stream reporting service and returns gauge height, stream flow rate and other useful information.
Stream Map USA is available of the App Store and Google Play in 8 editions covering 48 states.
